Houses: Created by Peter Aldington - a new book out this month

Peter Aldington is one of the most influential designers of post-war houses in Britain and this book is a collection of all the houses that he ‘created’, either individually or with his two partners John Craig and Paul Collinge. There were many more unbuilt, and a selection of these are also included as well as a number of alterations and additions.  Many of the articles in the book have been reproduced unedited, so they are a record of the architectural opinion of the time. The book is not just a unique record of the Practice’s houses, but is, in itself, a work created by Peter Aldington, who made the selections from the Aldington, Craig and Collinge archive and has beautifully designed and laid the book to page.

Turn End Trust launches Friends of Turn End Scheme

Turn End Charitable Trust is introducing a new ‘Friends of Turn End’ scheme.

The Trust was established in order to protect the Turn End estate for future generations, make it available for the public benefit, and promote public knowledge and understanding of architecture, garden design, and the relationship between them. To do this, in 2014 we launched an annual programme of events, aiming year by year to increase public access to the house and gardens, and broadening the range of events. The Trust though needs help. Like all charitable organisations, we depend on the public for our survival. Particularly now, since the Trust is still young and vulnerable. But that in turn depends on the public being able to take advantage of the estate as far as possible through the four seasons of the year. This is why we are pleased to announce the launch of the Turn End Friends Scheme, starting now in 2015.

Upcoming Exhibition - Sculpture in the Garden

This July, the Turn End Charitable Trust welcomes an exciting exhibition of outdoor sculptures. The exhibition is set within the tranquil setting of Turn End gardens. Visitors to the exhibition will see an enticing selection of traditional and contemporary artworks, all for sale, from local, national and international artists.

‘Sculpture in the Garden’ is spearheaded by Lendon Scantlebury. Lendon has curated hugely successful exhibitions including ‘Sculpture in the Vineyard’ at Bothy Vineyard in 2013 and the recent ’Art in Ardington’ village exhibition which attracted over 6000 visitors. Based in Wantage, Lendon has run his own bronze foundry and sculpture casting business for over 30 years, as well as undertaking sculpture restoration. The exhibition at Turn End is co-curated by Lindsay Waring, herself an accomplished sculptor.

Turn End Trust launches Events Programme for 2014

This year the Turn End Trust is launching a new programme of events in Turn End gardens.

The Trust (Charity No. 1072771) was set up to promote the conservation of the properties and garden as evolving or living entities, the advancement of education and scholarship in the art of building and  garden design, and the promotion of public knowledge and understanding of architecture, planning, landscape architecture and allied subjects.
